Since the summer vacation and end semester examination periods in various universities in South India, especially in Kerala may be altered as an after effect of the present lock down in the country effected by Government of India and various state governments due to the spread of COVID-19 disease, It has been decided to postpone the Initiation into Mathematics programme. The revised dates will be announced later after assessing various academic constraints.

A one week long workshop for the fourth Semester undergraduate (B.Sc/Integrated M.Sc.) Mathematics students will be organized at the St. Joseph’s College, Moolamattom, Idukki, Kerala during 20-25 April 2020.

The aim of this programme is to promote mathematical thinking and expose young minds to the excitement of doing mathematics. The lectures will be focussed on stimulating the participants to think and discover basic mathematical results in their own.

Who should apply?

Fourth Semester undergraduate (B.Sc/Integrated M.Sc.) Mathematics students  shall apply. Most of the participants will be selected from students studying in institutes in Kerala. A few students from the other South Indian states Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana also will be considered.

The selection will be purely based on merit, consistently good academic record and the recommendation letter from a mathematics teacher closely acquainted with the candidate.

Academic programme

There will be courses in Mathematical Foundations, Linear Algebra and Real Analysis.

Application Procedure

  • Applications should be prepared online and the printout of the application form and recommendation form signed by a teacher knowing the students should be posted (preferably by speed post) to the programme convenor.

  • Selected students should confirm their participation through email to the programme convenor.
  • While the students report at the programme venue, they should bring a bonafide certificate from their institute and undertaking form in the format available at the page http://mtts.org.in/downloads
  • The selection list will be available at this page.
  • Candidates selected for the programme WILL NOT be provided any traveling charges.  But they WILL BE provided free board and lodging (in the college hostel) for the duration of the course.

Important dates

  • Online application portal opens on 5th February 2020 and closes on 29th February 2020 7th March 2020.
  • By 10 th March 2020, the printed, signed application and recommendation form should reach the programme convenor.
  • Date of publishing selection list : 15 th March 2020.
  • Confirmation from the students from 18th March 2020 to 24 March 2020.
  • Duration of the programme: 20 – 25 April 2020 4-9 May 2020.
