Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme

An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath)  programme will be organized at the Department of Mathematics, Sri G.V.G.Visalakshi College for Women, Udumalpet, Tamil Nadu – 642 126 during March 17 – 22, 2025.

All the participants will be provided with local hospitality and study material. Accommodation will be provided for the outstation participants.

Outstation participants will also be provided with Government bus fare/Sleeper class train return fare whichever is the least on production of original tickets.

Academic programme

There will be courses in Foundations, Linear Algebra and Real Analysis. The courses will be taught by highly experienced faculty in MTTS teaching methodology.

Eligibility

Second year (3rd/4th semester) undergraduate students with Mathematics as one of their main subjects. Exceptionally bright first year students also may apply. Students from Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states will be given preference.

Selection

The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.

Registration Fee

There is no registration fee for the programme.

About the Institute

Sri G.V.G. Visalakshi College for Women, Udumalpet, a government-aided autonomous institution affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, was founded by the great philanthropist, Sri G.V.Govindaswamy Naidu. The college has made an indelible mark in the academic map of South India imparting quality education to rural women students since 1952 with a motto ‘Not for self, but for all’. The institution has always remained the iconic educational edifice imparting knowledge and values over the period of 73 years offering 23 UG and 8 PG programmes.

The department of Mathematics was started as one of the earliest departments of the college in the year 1954. It was upgraded as PG department in 1985 and elevated as research department(M.Phil in 2003 and Ph.D in 2022). Right from its inception the department has been striving to set high standards of teaching and learning adhering to the goals of the college. The department maintains a record of good service with the vision of the Founder to establish a strong mathematical foundation among the young learners.

How to reach

Sri G.V.G Visalakshi College for Women is situated in Udumalapet, which is about 72km away from Coimbatore towards the south. The Institute is about 2km from Udumalapet bus stand and Udumalapet railway station. The nearest railway station is UDUMALAIPPETTAI (UDT) and one can catch trains to UDUMALAPET (UDT) from MADURAI (MDU) or TIRUPPUR (TUP).
