Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme

An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath) Programme will be organized at Department of Mathematics, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Irinjalakuda, Thrissur, Kerala, during March 11 – 16, 2024.

Academic programme

Three fundamental courses in mathematics will be taught by faculty, who are highly experienced in the MTTS teaching methodology. The aim of the instructions is not to give routine lectures but to stimulate the participants to think and discover mathematical results.

Eligibility

Second year undergraduate students with mathematics as one of their main subjects are eligible. Students from Kerala will be given preference, and those from neighbouring states (Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducherry) will also be considered.

Selection

• The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records, and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.

• The list of selected candidates will also be posted on this webpage. Only selected candidates will be informed of their selection.

• Accommodation will be provided to the selected non-local (outstation) participants. Food will be provided to all the participants. No travel fare will be provided.

• While the students report at the programme venue, they should bring a bonafide certificate from their institute and undertaking form signed by the student and parent in the format available at the page http://mtts.org.in/downloads

Instructions for the selected

The selected candidates should confirm their participation following the instructions they receive at the email used in the application. They should confirm it accordingly failing which their selection will be cancelled. They need to confirm latest by 24th February 2024 evening. Link to a form to confirm will be emailed to them by the morning of 21st February 2024.

About the organizing institute

St. Joseph’s College, Irinjalakuda stands tall, about 60 years of legacy and service, solely built on the philosophy of imparting value based education for the holistic development of women. The inspirational vision of Saint Mariam Theresia, the foundress of the Congregation of the Holy Family, guides the institution to achieve its goal in the field of higher education with the support of pioneer administrators. The college was granted the status of CPE by the UGC in 2016. The institution received A++ grade (CGPA 3.66 out of 4) as an autonomous college in the fourth cycle of accreditation by NAAC in 2023.

The Centre for Research in Mathematical Sciences affiliated to the University of Calicut is the research wing of the Post-graduate department of Mathematics. The thrust areas of the research at this centre are Topology, Graph theory, PDE and Modelling, and Queueing theory. Every year department organizes Seminar/Workshop/ Conference with the support of IMU, NBHM, NCM(a joint venture of TIFR and IIT-B), KSCSTE etc. Centre stands to inculcate research interest among students and faculty in diverse areas of Mathematical Sciences.
