Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme

An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath) Programme will be organised at Department of Mathematics, IIT Jammu, Jagti, Nagrota, Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir – 181221, during July 8 – 13, 2024.

Academic programme

Three fundamental courses in mathematics will be taught by faculty, who are highly experienced in the MTTS teaching methodology. The aim of the instructions is not to give routine lectures but to stimulate the participants to think and discover mathematical results.

Eligibility

Second year undergraduate students (those who have completed 3 semesters) with mathematics as one of their main subjects are eligible. Students from Jammu & Kashmir will be given preference, and those from neighbouring states will be considered.

Selection

• The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records, and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.
• The list of selected candidates will also be posted on the MTTS webpage by Mon, June 17, 2024. Only selected candidates will be informed of their selection.
• Sleeper class train fare or (non-AC) state bus fare and accommodation will be provided to the selected non-local (outstation) participants. Food will be provided to all the participants.

While the students report at the programme venue, they should bring a bonafide certificate from their institute and undertaking form signed by the student and parent in the format available at the page http://mtts.org.in/downloads

About the organising department / institute

The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu, inaugurated in 2016, shifted to its lush green main campus in Jagti village in 2018. The Department of Mathematics started with the establishment of IIT Jammu. The vision of the department, currently having 11 energetic and dedicated faculty members in many areas of pure and applied mathematics, is to become a centre of excellence in Mathematics through high quality research and teaching.

The department has started its PhD program from 2017 and its own B. Tech. program in mathematics and computing in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering from 2023. Furthermore, the department offers a minor program in Mathematics along with various core and elective courses for all B. Tech. streams and participates in the M. Tech. program in data science and information security.
