Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme

Details

An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath)  Programme will be organized at Department of Mathematics and Computing, Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad, Jharkhand during February 19-24, 2024.

All the participants will be provided with local hospitality and study material. Accommodation will be provided for the outstation participants.

Outstation participants will also be provided with Government bus fare/Sleeper class train sleeper return fare which ever is the least on production of original tickets.

​ Academic Programme

There will be courses in Foundations, Linear Algebra and Real Analysis. The courses will be taught by highly experienced faculty in MTTS teaching methodology.

Eligibility

Second year (3rd/4th semester) undergraduate students with Mathematics as one of their main subjects. Exceptionally bright first year students also may apply. Students from the Jharkhand, Bihar and neighbouring states will be given preference.

Selection

The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.

Registration Fee

There is no registration fee for the programme.

About the Institute

Department of Physics and Mathematics was established since the inception of Indian School of Mines in 1926 and was given an independent status in 1989 as Department of Applied Mathematics and further renamed as Mathematics and Computing in 2019. Over the last three decades, the department has demonstrated its expertise and competence in teaching and research in the core areas of Mathematics and its allied disciplines. The Department provides an outstanding research environment complemented by excellent teaching for its students to flourish in different arena of academics and industry as well. The department offers academic programs leading to the award of M.Sc. (Mathematics and Computing), Integrated M. Tech (Mathematics and Computing), M. Tech. (Data Analytics) and Ph.D. degree.

Instructions for the selected

Email has been send to all the selected which they should receive by 25 January evening.

To participate in the programme, the selected students must confirm their participation by sending an email to the local coordinator Professor S. P. Tiwari (sptiwari@iitism.ac.in) latest by January 30,2024.  Please mention the fullname name and serial number and their  complete address in the confirmation email.

Please write ’confirmation for InitMath-2024-Dhanbad’ as the subject in the confirmation email. In case a student does not confirm his/her participation during this period, his/her selection will stand canceled automatically and no further communication will be entertained.
