Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme

An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath)  Programme will be organized at Department of Mathematics, Sardar Patel University during March 20-25, 2023.

Academic programme

Three fundamental courses in Mathematics will be taught by highly experienced faculty in MTTS teaching methodology. The aim of the instructions is not to give routine lectures but to stimulate the participants to think and discover mathematical results.

Eligibility

Second year undergradugate students with Mathematics as one of their main subjects. Students from the Gujarat and neighboring states will be given preference.

Selection

• The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.
• Sleeper class train fare or state bus fare and accommodation will be provided to the selected non local participants. Food will be provided to all the participants.
• While the students report at the programme venue, they should bring a bonafide certificate from their institute and undertaking form signed by the student and parent in the format available at the page http://mtts.org.in/downloads

About the Department of Mathematics, Sardar Patel University

The Department of Mathematics, established in 1958, offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. Programs in Mathematics; and has a total strength of 11 faculty and nearly 250 students. The Teaching Program is a blend of Pure, Applied and Applicable Mathematics comprising of advanced courses.The research areas pursued include Banach Algebras, Operator Theory and Operator Algebras, Function Algebras, Graph Theory, Harmonic Analysis on groups and semigroups with weights, Approximation theory, Special Functions, Relativity Theory, Number Theory and Financial Mathematics. NBHM Regional Library (Western Region) is housed in the Department. The Department has strong computational facility. The Annual Problem Solving Workshops is a regular feature of the Department. More than 110 students have cleared NET/NET JRF/ GATE/NBHM Tests. The faculty has lured laurels like Common Wealth Fellowships, DAAD, IASc Fellowship and awards for research papers adjudged best. The faculty has successfully developed National and International research collaborations.
