Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme

An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath) Programme will be organized at Department of Mathematics, St. Berchmans College (Autonomous), Changanacherry, Kerala during March 06-11, 2023.

Academic programme

Three fundamental courses in Mathematics (Foundations, Real Analysis, Linear Algebra) will be taught by highly experienced faculty in MTTS teaching methodology. The aim of the instructions is not to give routine lectures but to stimulate the participants to think and discover mathematical results.

Eligibility

Second year undergradugate students with Mathematics as one of their main subjects. Students from the Kerala and neighboring states will be given preference.

Selection

• The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.

• Accommodation will be provided to the selected non local participants. Food will be provided to all the participants. The expenses for both these will be met by the organizers.

• While the students report at the programme venue, they should bring a bonafide certificate from their institute and undertaking form signed by the student and parent in the format available at the page http://mtts.org.in/downloads

About the organizing institute

St Berchmans College Changanacherry is an Arts and Science Autonomous College, affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, founded in 1922 and managed by the Catholic Archdiocese of Changanacherry. It is a NAAC accredited A Grade college and has been recognized by UGC as a College with Potential for Excellence. At present, the college is ranked in the 62nd position in NIRF. The Department of Mathematics, formed in 1925, is in its 98^th year of inception. The UG course in Mathematics started in 1928 and PG in 1965. In 2018, the Department became an approved Research Centre in Mathematics. Active research is being carried out in the fields of Commutative Algebra, Harmonic Analysis and Graph Theory. To promote research, the Department has formed ‘Berchmans Centre for Mathematical Sciences’ in 2019. The Department regularly organizes academic programmes like International/National seminars, Winter Schools, Summer Schools, Webinars and Lecture Series.

Right from the beginning, the Department has striven to set high standards in teaching and over the years the Department has produced highly qualified teachers and researchers, IT professionals as well as thousands of eminent personalities.

1. Email has been sent to all the selected applicants. They need to confirm their participation using the link given in the email and follow all the other instructions.
2. Selected students may obtain a bonafide certificate in the format available at https://mtts.org.in/downloads/forms-and-formats-for-students
3. They may also produce an undertaking while reporting for the programme at SB College.
4. They should arrange for their travel in their own. Students other than local students will be provided accommodation in the college hostel.
