Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme

An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath) Programme will be organized at IIT Roorkee (Saharanpur Campus), Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh during Nov 11 – 16, 2024.

Academic programme

Three fundamental courses in mathematics will be taught by faculty, who are highly experienced in the MTTS teaching methodology. The aim of the instructions is not to give routine lectures but to stimulate the participants to think and discover mathematical results.

Eligibility

Second year undergraduate students with mathematics as one of their main subjects are eligible. Students from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be given preference, and those from neighbouring states will be considered.

Selection

• The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records, and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.
• The list of selected candidates will also be posted on the MTTS webpage by Mon, Oct 21st, 2024. Only selected candidates will be informed of their selection.
• Sleeper class train fare or (non-AC) state bus fare and accommodation will be provided to the selected non-local (outstation) participants. Food will be provided to all the participants.
• While the students report to the programme venue, they should bring a bonafide certificate from their institute and undertaking form signed by the student and parent in the format available at the page http://mtts.org.in/downloads

About the organizing institute

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) is among the foremost of institutes of national importance in higher technological education and in engineering, basic and applied research. Having a history of more than 175 years, the institute has played a vital role in providing the technical manpower and know-how to the country and in pursuit of research.

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing (D-AMSC), established in March 2022, is situated in the Saharanpur Campus of IIT Roorkee. The objective of the department is to train the students in efficient computational techniques, which are often desirable, and are many times necessary for solving the complex real-world problems, where analytical approaches are either difficult or impossible to use. The department offers Ph.D. and M.Tech. degrees in Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing and currently has five energetic and dedicated faculty members in diverse areas of applied mathematics and scientific computing.
