Majority of academicians involved with teaching is likely to be disgusted with the ubiquitous and the most commonly used assessment that usually involves examinations spread over the semester. The pandemic has worsened the  situation during which the exams are either conducted online or in so-called hybrid mode. After all the efforts by a teacher, what is the outcome? Do the grades reflect the real learning by the students and their confidence in the subject? Almost always, the answer is ”No!”.

About the Workshop

This workshop is born out of years of experience of the speaker and conviction that assessment is DIFFERENT from tests/exams. It deals with some radically different ways of assessment. All are class-tested over three decades and are practical. Most importantly, with these assessments the grades scored by the students are true gauges of their learning and levels of their conceptual understanding and problem-solving abilities. Moreover, they may be suitably modified to suit the restrictions imposed by the institutions or by some over-reaching bodies. This workshop is meant for those teachers who are willing to experiment, participate very actively, and discuss the outcome in various fora, so that our country may adopt some of them in near future. It is also expected that there will be assignments to the participants so that they understand the new ways of assessment and may also point out the shortcomings of these with possible improvements.
