Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme

An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath) Programme will be organized at Department of Mathematics, University of North Bengal, Siliguri, West Bengal – 734013 during October 13 – October 18, 2025.

Academic programme

Three fundamental courses in Mathematics will be taught by highly experienced faculty in MTTS teaching methodology. The aim of the instructions is not to give routine lectures but to stimulate the participants to think and discover mathematical results.

Eligibility

Third/Fourth Semester undergraduate students with Mathematics as one of their main subjects. Students from the West Bengal and neighboring states will be given preference.

Selection

• The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.

• Sleeper class train fare or state bus fare and accommodation will be provided to the selected non local participants. Food will be provided to all the participants.

While the students report at the programme venue, they should bring a bonafide certificate from their institute and undertaking form signed by the student and parent in the format available at the page http://mtts.org.in/downloads

About the organizing institute

The University of North Bengal, established in 1962 at the foothills of high Himalaya in close proximity of vast plains around it with a fascinating glimpse of the Kanchenjunga peak, tea gardens and forest cover, has shouldered the responsibility of dissemination of knowledge by judicious expansion of its role in advanced, non-conventional, applied and job-oriented fields keeping the quality of education at par with global standards at low cost. It has also been fulfilling the objectives of imparting higher education and research to the people of this socioeconomically backward area of the country.

The department of Mathematics came into existence in 1962 to develop a center for excellence in the region of North Bengal in Mathematical Sciences and Applications. Pioneering research contributions have come from the faculty members in diverse fields of Mathematics. The department conducts Master’s degree program in Mathematics and Ph.D. program, and has an excellent employment record at various levels.
