An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath) Programme will be organized at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, from December 29, 2025 to January 3, 2026.
- All the participants will be provided with local hospitality and study material.
- Accommodation will be provided for the outstation participants.
- Outstation participants will also be provided with the Government bus fare/Sleeper class train return fare, whichever is the least, on production of original tickets.
Academic programme
There will be courses in Foundations, Linear Algebra and Real Analysis. The courses will be taught by highly experienced faculty in the MTTS teaching methodology.
Eligibility
Second year (3rd/4th semester) undergraduate students with Mathematics as one of their main subjects are eligible. Exceptionally bright first-year students also may apply. Students from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka will be given preference.

Selection
The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.
Registration Fee
There is no registration fee for the programme.
About the Institute and the Department
The Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IIT Tirupati) was established under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. Located on Yerpedu-Venkatagiri Road, Yerpedu Post, Tirupati District, it is the first institute of the third phase of Indian Institutes of Technology, following its announcement in 2014 and foundation stone laying in March 2015. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at IIT Tirupati, established in August 2019, offers mathematical, statistical, and computing courses for all engineering disciplines of IIT Tirupati at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Research levels. These courses are carefully designed to build strong analytical and quantitative skills essential for modern engineering challenges.
The Department currently offers M. Sc (Mathematics and Statistics), M.Sc (Mathematics), and PhD programmes, providing students with diverse pathways to specialize in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, and computational sciences. The Department is active in research areas of pure and applied mathematics, industrial mathematics and statistics, machine learning, and data sciences.
How to reach
Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IITTP) is situated in Yerpedu, which is about 22 km from Tirupati city towards Chennai. The campus is around 20 km from Renigunta Junction railway station and 25 km from Tirupati railway station, while the Tirupati airport is located approximately 14 km away.
- To reach the Institute from Tirupati bus stand: Regular bus service and taxis are available. Journey time is approximately 45 minutes.
- To reach the Institute from Tirupati/Renigunta railway station: Regular bus service and taxis are available. Journey time is approximately 20-45 minutes.
