Abstract of the talk

This talk is meant as a gentle introduction to Hyperbolic Geometry. The purpose of this talk is to introduce students to the hyperbolic plane and (hopefully) pique their curiosity! This rich subject has been, and continues to be, an active area of research with many interesting problems and connections to other branches of mathematics. The talk will be light on details and technicalities.

About the speaker

Dr Vikram Aithal did his PhD at IIT Bombay. He Was a postdoctoral fellow at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. He has been a part of MTTS for almost twenty years! His research research involves studying the interactions between Geometry, Topology and Group theory in non-positively curved spaces.

Who may attend?

The talk is aimed at the MSc (Mathematics) students.
