Initiation into Mathematics 2026, Bihar

The Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath) programme is a regional level camp organized under the aegis of the MTTS Trust. These regional camps are designed to provide opportunities to a larger number of students and run along the same lines as the annual summer camp. The intent is to stimulate participants to think and discover mathematical ideas on their own through highly experienced faculty.

An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath) Programme will be organized at Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology Patna, Bihar during September 21–26, 2026.
All the participants will be provided with local hospitality and study material. Accommodation will be provided for the outstation participants. Food will be provided to all participants. No travel allowance will be provided.

Academic Programme

The programme consists of the three fundamental courses Foundations, Linear Algebra and Real Analysis in mathematics. The aim is to:

• Expose bright young students to the excitement of doing mathematics.

• Promote independent mathematical thinking.

• Help participants gain confidence for self-study and advanced courses.

Eligibility

• Academic: Second-year undergraduate students currently in their 3rd or 4th semesters with mathematics as one of their main subjects.

• Regional: Students from Bihar and its neighboring states will be considered.

Application Procedure

• Portal: Applications must be submitted online at https://5dspace.mtts.org.in.

• Register & Login: If you are visiting this portal for the first time, register giving your fullname, email address and password. Give your full official name, as this will be used across different applications you submit at this site.

• Academic programmes: Click on Academic programme menu item, scroll down and then click on “2026 onwards” link under “Initmath Application System”, click on “View full details” under “Initiation into Mathematics 2026, Bihar”. Follow the instructions there to fill the form.

• Recommendations: Ask your teachers to submit their recommendations via the same portal, following the instructions they receive at their email.

Selection and Support

• Selection Criteria: Based on merit, consistent academic records, and teacher recommendations.

• Notification: Only selected candidates will be informed and the list will be posted on the MTTS website.

• Support: All the participants will be provided with local hospitality and study material. Accommodation will be provided for the outstation participants. Food will be provided to all participants. No travel allowance will be provided.

Registration Fee

There is no registration fee for the programme.

About the Institute

Established by an Act of Parliament on August 6, 2008, IIT Patna is an Institute of National Importance. The Department of Mathematics offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes, with research areas including Algebra, Coding Theory, Differential Equations, Graph Theory, Numerical Analysis, Optimization, Statistics, Differential Geometry, Computational Finance, Theoretical Computer Science and Matrix Theory.

How to reach

IIT Patna is located at Bihta, about 35 km from Patna city. The campus is easily accessible by road from Patna Junction Railway Station and Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport. The nearest railway station is Bihta Railway Station, about 4km and Patna Junction about 30km from the campus.

2. Click Academic Programmes in the menu and open this programme.
3. Click See Application Details — your assigned batch/camp and Selection ID are shown here.
4. Click Confirm Participation to accept your seat, or check the box and click Decline if you cannot attend.
