An Initiation into Mathematics (InitMath) Programme will be organized at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, Maharashtra during January 6th to 11th, 2025.
All the participants will be provided with local hospitality and study material. Accommodation will be provided for the outstation participants.
Outstation participants will also be provided with Government (non-AC) bus fare/Sleeper class train fare whichever is the least on production of original tickets.
Academic programme
There will be courses in Foundations, Linear Algebra and Real Analysis. The courses will be taught by highly experienced faculty in MTTS teaching methodology.
Eligibility
Second year undergraduate students with Mathematics as one of their main subjects. Exceptionally bright first-year students also may apply. Students from Maharashtra and the neighbouring states will be given preference.

Selection
- The selection will be on merit, based on consistent and good academic records, and recommendation by a mathematics teacher.
- The list of selected candidates will also be posted on the MTTS webpage by Dec. 14, 2024. Only selected candidates will be informed of their selection.
- Sleeper class train fare or (non-AC) state bus fare, and accommodation will be provided to the selected outstation participants.
Registration Fee
There is no registration fee for the programme.
About the Institute
Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT Nagpur), formerly Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur (VRCE), is a public engineering and research institute, located in Nagpur, Maharashtra. It was established in June 1960 by the Government of India. The Govt. of India conferred on the Institute, the Deemed to be University status in June 2002. Subsequently, the Central Govt. by NIT Act of Parliament declared VNIT Nagpur as an “Institute of National Importance” along with all other NITs in 2007. The Department of Mathematics VNIT Nagpur grew from its humble beginnings in the year 1960. It has aimed to be a centre of excellence in Mathematics and scientific computing. The Department offers several courses in Mathematics to undergraduate engineering students. It commenced a two-year Master of Science (M.Sc.) program in Mathematics in 2012. In addition to the M.Sc. program, the Department also offers doctoral programs in various areas of Mathematics.
How to reach VNIT
VNIT Nagpur campus is located in the western part of Nagpur city near Ambazari Lake, about 7 kilometres from Nagpur Railway Station and 8 kilometres from Maharashtra State Road Transport Ganesh Peth Bus Stand. Prepaid Autos and taxis are available from the Prepaid Taxi counter outside the Railway station. There is an Ola cab counter also available outside the Platform no. 1.
