The Online Foundation Course in Mathematics (OFCM) is an MTTS initiative consisting of six online regional camps on mathematical foundations for second year undergraduate students in Mathematics. The programme is being organized by the MTTS Trust since 2020, and about five hundred students drawn from different parts of the country who have just completed their second semester are trained following the interactive MTTS methodology through these camps.

There will be six simultaneous regional camps each admitting about 80 participants. The programme will be organized online on the Zoom platform and will be supported by class communications through MTTS Classroom (Moodle).

About the programme

This is a unique course taught in MTTS programmes to initiate the students to some fundamental concepts in mathematics. After attending a two-week Foundation course in the MTTS summer camps, most participants have observed improved logical and analytical thinking, problem solving abilities, and experienced a change in their attitude.They also acquire a high level of confidence for self-study to undertake advanced courses in mathematics.

The objective of the OFCM regional camps is to transfer the positive changes that the Foundation course brings to MTTS participants, to many more students across the country.

Eligibility

Undergraduate students, who have just completed their 1st year (or 2 semesters), or are currently in their 2nd year (or 3rd semester) of their B.Sc./B.A./Integrated M.Sc. programme, with Mathematics as one of their main subjects.

How to apply

  1. Application by the candidates should be submitted online at the site https://4dspace.mtts.org.in. For detailed guidelines, please see this page.
  2. After logging into the site using the OTP received at the given email address, select the programme Online Foundation Course in Mathematics (OFCM) 2023.
  3. The applicant must give the details of a teacher in her/his application who will be ready to submit recommendations for the applicant.
  4. After submitting the application, the student must inform the teacher mentioned in the application, and ensure that the teacher  submits her/his recommendation within the deadline by filling the online recommendation form.
  5. Note: The link to submit the online recommendation will be sent to the email address of the teacher from the online application system.
  6. Recommendations by teachers are also to be submitted at https://4dspace.mtts.org.in

Registration Fee

There is no fee for the programme.

Selection

The selection will be on merit, based on consistent, and good academic records, and recommendations submitted by the teachers. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the teacher submits her/his recommendation in time.

The list of selected candidates will be posted at this webpage  along with instructions for confirmation of participation and further guidelines for registration, etc. Only selected candidates will be informed of their selection by email.

Instructions for the selected candidates

You may note down your Selection ID from the published list in the above link. This must be used in all your future communications with us. 
For further communication, we will be using MTTS Classrooms, and the sessions will be conducted using the Zoom platform. The instructions regarding OFCM2023 sessions, MTTS Classroom, and Zoom are given below. It is long, so please read carefully.
Failure to follow the instructions will result in the cancellation of your selection.
OFCM2023 sessions, and what to expect: 
This is an intensive 2-week course, and you will be expected to work hard.
There will be a lecture session every day for about 70 minutes, followed by a group discussion of 45 minutes. Attendance is mandatory in both.
Unlike usual online sessions, these will be very interactive, with many questions asked.
Other than the instructor, you will be associated with a mentor, who will guide you through the discussion sessions.
The more you actively participate in the sessions and discussions, and the more effort you put in, the more you will gain from this camp.
MTTS Classrooms (https://classroom.mtts.org.in):
All further relevant class information will be shared only on this portal. So, please be sure to login at least once every day until the end of the course.
How to log in the first time:
Within the next 24 hours, all the applicants selected for OFCM2023 will receive an email  from MTTS Classrooms with details of username and a temporary password.
Your username is the first part of the email id that you have used to apply for OFCM2023.
i.e., if your email id is abcdef@something.com then your username is abcdef.
You must log in for the first time within 36 hours of the announcement of the selection list on the MTTS website.
After logging in, what you should do:
Stay patient. You will get further instructions via MTTS Classrooms.
In case you do not see the email due to some reason:
Make sure it is the correct email ID.
Wait 24 hours, and then first check your spam folder.
If it is not there, you can still log into MTTS Classrooms by doing the following:
(i) Go to https://classroom.mtts.org.in, click on “Log in” at the top right corner.
(ii) Click on “forgotten username or password”
(iii) Your password can be reset by choosing either “Search by username”, or by choosing “Search by email address”.
In case the emailed password does not work:
Follow steps (i) – (iii) above.
Zoom Registrations:
(i) You will need to create a Zoom account using the email ID that has been used to apply for OFCM2023.
(ii) An announcement will be posted on MTTS Classrooms giving you the link to register for the Zoom sessions. Click on the link, and use the same email ID to register for the sessions.
You must register on Zoom latest by Wednesday, 16th August.
